ivy mix was born and raised in rural central Vermont. she received her BA from Bennington College in 2008 with a double focus in Philosophy and Fine Arts, concentrating in Art Theory and Photography. towards the end of her education, ivy started to apply her art theory towards her photography and the results were and continue to be minimalistic and sculptural. ivy’s work originates from her confusion and questioning of photography; mainly of how the camera is incapable of showing that which has meaning – that which is below or beyond the surface. this has matured into a sculptural or installation style study of perception and reality, and truth and identity.

currently, ivy is both sleeping and working in her bedroom/studio in Brooklyn, NY and taking a short hiatus from higher education.
